Valentine's Day English for everyone

The first two video-gifts present a real story of the origin of Valentine’s celebration. You will learn who was the architect of this celebration and when it started…  This special day became connected with romantic love in the middle ages with the help of poet Geoffrey Chaucer. Chaucer also chose Saint Valentine as a patron for marriage, which is the first mention of Saint Valentine in a love poem. in the poem there are other symbols of love which came to be associated with Saint Valentine’s Day: Cupid and Venus. Today, giving chocolate, jewellery or presenting one’s love with flowers are all customary gifts for St. Valentine’s Day. However, the most common present is the exchange of love notes known as Valentines. Today, it is estimated that approximately one billion Valentine’s Day cards are sent worldwide each year.

But love … does it really exist nowadays? The younger generation is said to be a little bit more cynical about love. And there is a little less loyalty in modern world. However, really does love exist and you need forethought, inner strength and courage to say “I love you”, then, be prepared to wait hours or even days for an answer. Signs, notes, and other non-verbal cues can work wonderfully if you keep them personal and genuine.

Can you read in between lines?

It’s no secret that the language of love isn’t always the most direct. A few examples:

Line 1: «I’d love to stay out, but I have to get up really early tomorrow,» = «Sorry, you just aren’t floating my boat.’
Line 2: «I had such a good time with you.» = «Wow, you’re actually fun and different from all the other guys or girls!»
Line 3: «Why don’t you come over and I’ll cook for you?» = «Ready to get physical?»
Line 4: «I’m just not ready for a relationship.» = «I’m just not in love with you.»

A marriage of convenience vs. true love this topic is explored in gift 7 “Marriage culture”

When two people get married, they can’t just live forever with only love, to a certain extent they should be financially stable. By the way, what do you think of public display of affection? Pros and cons … For women it is a sensitive and romantic way to express love for the significant other.

The next video-gift explores the question: “Can you have a good marriage without a good romantic life?” The decline of romantic life is the beginning of a breakup and, in many cases, a bad romantic life becomes a quick slide into completely separate lives…  a matter of opinions, though.  And finally, the last video-gift introduces the notion of metro-sexuality vs retro-sexuality… Got interested? Watch them yourselves!
